Tuscan Vacation Villas - Holiday Villas for Rent in TuscanyWhy choose Tuscany for your holiday?  With beautiful countryside, wonderful food, great wine, a huge breadth of art and culture and historic cities , Tuscany is the ideal holiday destination.  Tuscany is at the centre of Italian life.  Cities like Florence, Siena, Pisa and Lucca offer wonderful sight seeing oppourtunities.

Steeped in History, from the Etruscans to the Renaissance, Tuscany has played a huge part in the development of European culture.  It is possibly the greatest repository of art in the world, from extraordinary paintings and sculpture to frescoes and architectural masterpieces.

Capital of Tuscany, Florence's museums, palaces, and churches house some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. The some of the most popular sites in Florence are the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Uffizi, the Bargello, and the Accademia. The churches of Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce are also wonderful art galleries   The library of San Lorenzo, part of possibly the oldest church in Florence which was founded in A.D. 393, was designed in 1524 by Michelangelo.  The Ponte Vecchio bridge was built in 1345 and is one of the most famous bridges in the world.

Other major towns in Tuscany are the historical centres of Siena, Pisa (home of the famous leaning tower), Lucca, Arezzo, San Gimignano. The region's main sea port is Leghorn (Livorno in Italian).  Tuscany has 150 miles of coastline, which includes a number of coastal resorts.  So, if history is 'not your thing' you can relax on the beach enjoying the sun and let others browse the museums and art galleries..

Tuscany is justifiably famous for it wine, probably the most well known of which is Chianti.  The British have long loved this area and have, as a result, nicknamed Tuscany 'Chiantishire'.

Mountain areas of Tuscany are on the east Appennino Tosco-Emiliano and on the west the Apuane Alps. The former, forming the border between Tuscany and Emilia, the region of Bologna, is a section of the Appenines, the backbone of Italy running through all the length of the peninsula. The latter, close to the sea, produce the precious white marble of Carrara.
